Blog post #31 Tina Fey bossypants

June4

As a teenager Tina moved to Wildwood, New Jersey. She lived with her cousins Janet and Lori. Janet and Lori taught Tina a lot about womanhood “they taught me everything i know about womanhood” pg.39. Wildwood was filled with beaches this is where Tina found out that there can be a number of things that can be incorrect in a women’s body. This was in the seventies where small-eyed , thin lipped blond women were praised. Tina calls blond hair yellow hair because hers is called brown. I predict that Tina will eventually call her self a Burnett cause she got brown hair.

I have finished the book but before it ended I predicted that Beef was going to turn out gay. My first clue that he was gay was when Patrick had spoken about his boyfriend to Jason. He told him “That he had a hard family life” (Myracle 296). Beef is known for having a father who beat him. I was sure of my assumption when Beef’s girlfriend told Cat that she had found some matches in Beef’s coat from this place that is known for being a gay bar. Cat was blind at the moment how the dots were beginning to connect together to form Beef. Beef, Patrick’s boyfriend, turned out to be the one who harmed Patrick. Beef did not harm him because of their relationship it was because of the drugs in Beef system, so in the end it was not a hate crime.

The reading strategy I am going to use is prediction. I predict that karma will soon come to Epiphany. The reason I say this is because Epiphany is a gold digger and a player. She pretends that she likes a dude for his money just so they can pay her bills and buy her clothes.  Epiphany comes across this guy name Corey who is a drug dealer and has five other “baby momma’s”.  Epiphany starts to fall in love with Corey and she puts up with all the BS he has. One day Epiphany found out that Corey was cheating on her with some other girl and got the girl pregnant. “When I found out Corey was messing around on me, I was so hurt I didn’t have a clue.” Epiphany was so surprised because it caught her way off guard. At that moment she didn’t want anything to do with Corey.

The reading strategy I am going to use is prediction. I predict that Epiphany, Kiesha, and Shana are growing apart. The reason I say that is because in the beginning of the story they talked about how they were so when they were kids. The reason they’re not close anymore is because Keisha is engaged and has a baby boy, Shana is out hustling and doing drugs, Epiphany is busy being a gold digger. Keisha and Epiphany’s relationship is fine and so is the relationship between Shana and Keisha. The main problem is between is Epphany and Shana, she said that  “since they were younger Epiphany has always act as if she’s better then me.” I hope Shana and Epiphany can rekindle their friendshiip.

The next part of the story is very tragic. Ram now tells his lawyer about the life experience that led him answering the second question correctly. He reveals some more of his background. He tells us about how he was left by his mother at a church. In this chapter he also explains that a priest named Father Timothy took him in and the inscription INRI is on the cross in the church. He also tells of his horrible experience when another Father in the church named, Father John killed Father Timothy and then turned the gun on himself and how he found their bodies. The number 2 question ends up being, “What is the sequence of letters on a cross?” and of course he knew the answer (Swarup 52). I want to know, Why did his mother leave him on the church steps?

I am still reading about the book His Mysterious Ways. The story that i found interesting is a story about a horse that was locked in his stable for playing around a lot. Then the horse’s owner got in trouble and fell into a river without knowing how to swim. When suddenly the horse escaped from his stable looking for him and saved his owners life. If there was a longer version of this i would have predicted that the owner would not bother the horse again and let him roam free.

I am at the part in Slumdog Millionaire where Ram begins to recount his life to his lawyer. He begins by telling the life experience that led him to answering the first question on the game show correctly. In this chapter we also learn a little bit more about his life. We learn that he has a best friend named, Salim, who has an idol named Armaan Ali. He begins by telling how his friend’s “tiny room in the chawl is a shrine” of Ali (Swarup 19). Since his friend has so must knowledge about Ali and takes Ram with him to see movies of his, he acquires that knowledge. The first question is “Can you name the blockbusting film in which Armaan Ali starred with Priya Kapoor for the very first time?” (Swarup 33). Of course, Ram answers this question with ease. Why would they think he cheated when these questions are so general?

I am still reading Slumdog Millionaire. I am at the point in the book where Ram has gotten interviewed after getting arrested on the basis of cheating. The people that arrested him are so keen on proving that he cheated that they have even tortured him [thrusting his head into a bucket of water and holding it there until his lungs are about to explode] (Swarup 12). All of his bad luck changes when a woman named Smita Shah bust into the interrogation room. Smita is a lawyer who read about his arrests in the paper who saw it and knew that she had to help him out. Smita is now about to listen to Ram’s incredible story and why he knew all of the answers to the questions on the game show without proper education. I think that people should not be so quick to judge poor people because, even though going to school is great, life can teach you a lot about things and you can gain great wisdom and knowledge through life’s hardships.

Evaluation- Tiarra Andrews-Owens

chapter 3

June4

The reading strategy that i am going to use is prediction. After Juniors dad killed his dog, Junior said that he was going to crawl into a hole for the rest of his life. he told his best human freind Rowdy what he was going to do, but Rowdy said he shouldnt. He told him that he shouldnt do that because no one would really care. so he didnt. But they decided to go to the powow, an annual labor day weekend parade, instead. Junior didnt want to go because he always gets bullied, but Rowdy said that if people bothered him, he would fight them for him. from this situation, i can predict that as soon as Junior and Rowdy get seperated, Junior will get bullied by the older people.

Chapter 2

June4

The reading strategy that I am going to use is evaluation. At this point in the story, the narrorator says that he is just a “poor-ass reservation kid living with his poor-ass family on the poor-ass Spokane Indian Reservation” [Alexie 14]. He then talks about his parents. He wants to blame them for their poverty, but he can’t. He loves them way to much. He says that it is not their fault because their parents were born into poverty, and their parents were born into poverty, and so on. Junior continues to explain his parents and what they could have been. His father could have been a succesful musician, and his mother could have been a teacher. I can evaluate from all of this that Junior’s life will be a major struggle due to his poverty.
