First interim grades are finalized, and we are moving on to Senior Success Week. Now that you know where you stand in your classes, and you have started to complete your college application process, you are going to have an amazing gift of time to get a lot done next week. TC Williams College Fair is Tuesday at 7:00 PM

Seniors who are interested in finalizing your plans for after high school, Tuesday is your day to shine. The TC Williams College Fair is coming, and there will be lots of representatives from colleges, military, and some potential career paths ready to talk with you about your future. Come dressed to impress, and have your transcript, resume and test scores on hand, just in case. Sign up ahead of time by registering online  at www.gotocollegefairs.com prior to attending the fair so that you can avoid having to fill out information cards all night long. We can’t wait to see you there taking full advantage of this opportunity taking place right on our campus from 7-9 PM. Looking for an Alternative Year After High School

In all the talk about college, some of you have been thinking about an alternative experience for that first year out of high school. Have you thought about taking a year to enhance your skills and learn more about the world of work before you commit to a major. Well then take a moment to think about taking a Year Up! This is a program designed for recent high school graduates to spend a year exploring their opportunities, while making the most of their resources. They have been holding informational sessions over the past month (flier link), and you can learn more via their flier and/or website. Please see Mrs. Parcell for more information about this great alternative that could lead to a great future.

SATURDAY LEARNING ACADEMY is Officially Underway

If you are in need of some time to get work done on the weekend, and need a place where a teacher is available to provide assistance in English, History, Math, or science. You can sign yourself in during the 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM window of opportunity to get a lot of work done, and then enjoy the rest of your weekend. This is an ideal situation for students taking online courses, and having a difficult time scheduling time during the week.

Mayor’s Campaign to End Bullying Kicks Off for 2015

October is Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. It’s time to continue the efforts to end bullying in Alexandria.

The next Mayor’s Campaign to End Bullying stakeholder’s meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the T.C. Williams High School King Street Campus, in the Rotunda. We hope to see everyone there! If you haven’t had the chance to attend previous meetings, please come – it’s never too late get involved. FREE Performing and Visual Arts College Fair

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) will be hosting a Performing and Visual Arts College Fair (PVA) in Washington, DC on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The PVA program is an important resource for fine arts students interested in pursuing undergraduate programs of study in the areas of music, theater, dance, visual arts, graphic design, film production, and other related disciplines.  A workshop on Navigating the Performing and Visual Arts College Fair will be offered from 12:10 p.m. – 12:50 p.m. in Meeting Room 102 B. College Essay writing session with our very own Essay Mom, Mrs. Karen Schwarz will take place on Saturday, October 17th at 11:00 here at TC. October 20th is the deadline to get approved for the 2014-2015 School Year Free/Reduced Lunch Program. The grace period will end on the 20th, so don’t delay in completing your application today. (Link) Not only is this important for your breakfast and lunch options, but it is also necessary to receive fee waivers for the ACT and SAT, which have deadlines fast approaching!

The University of Virginia Women in Engineering special High School Visitation program is scheduled for November 14th. Sign up today if you would like to attend this exciting and informative overnight experience. The application deadline is October 23rd, so don’t delay! Flier link & website link

Are you looking for tutoring to help with those challenging assignments? Take a look at this program that is being offered by Mount Zion Baptist Church in Arlington (just up the road). Flier link

Deadlines are coming up fast, and we don’t want anyone to miss an opportunity. If you are applying Early Action/Early Decision, please make sure you have turned in all of the required documents from the senior packet to Mrs. Christian way before the deadline (ie. October 15th for November 1st deadlines). Also, we have wonderful resources to help you with the next steps, so please see your counselor, Mrs. Parcell, the College and Career Center, the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria and Dean Sanders to help you ease the stress of completing the tasks coming your way over the next couple of months. We are ALL here to help launch you to the next level!
