VA Private Colleges Week, Common Application, ACT/SAT Deadlines, and Senior Pictures

Wow! Where did July go??? Can you believe that August 1st will be here this weekend? There is quite a bit to look forward to, starting with the opportunity to visit (and earn free fee waivers) from Virginia private colleges and the Common Application goes live on Saturday, August 1st.

VA Private Colleges Week is underway (July 27-July 31, 2015)

Yesterday some members of the class of 2016 visited colleges in the  Richmond area, and earned three fee waivers to Virginia private colleges as well as an additional one from University of Richmond. ACT Summer Prep, Summer School, and…

As you are settling into summer, please pay attention to these important planning updates:

1. ACT Summer Prep courses are available on campus (link). Don’t miss this excellent opportunity to prepare for the September 12th ACT. Registration for the prep and test (deadline August 7th) is underway! (ACT link)

2. Grade have been finalized, and summer school registration is underway. (Handbook link) The schedule for SoL Boot Camps (Writing and all other subjects (non-writing)) is available (link). Summer school registration deadline is Friday, June 26th!

3. Use your summer wisely. Here’s one example of planning for the application process and senior year from College Board (link)

Contact your counselor right away if you have questions about any of these items. We will only be available on campus until June 29th.

Summer School Registration is underway!

This year summer school will consist of the following options:

1. Credit Recovery for failed courses. There is a limited number of courses being offered, and most are being offered on campus with a teacher.

2. New and credit recovery courses online. These courses require an online registration, and are at a greater cost. Please see your counselor prior to registering for any of these courses.

3. Limited new courses offered on campus with a teacher. The options at this time consist of the following: Health/PE 9; Health/PE 10; Economics and Personal Finance.

4. SoL Boot Camp and an opportunity to retake SoLs that are required for graduation. The SoL Boot camp will require registration, and if you plan to be around to retake/take an SoL this summer, please let your counselor know RIGHT AWAY! This includes the Writing SoL (that is not offered often, so don’t miss this opportunity in July).
