Mid-Mission Reflection Claire

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis:

“Don’t let them drag you down by rumors just go with what you believe in.” ― Michael Jordan. I thought this quote could connect to kids in our school who sometimes are bullied or aren’t as confident. Sometimes they just need something to do that makes them get noticed, and I think that is sports. For our mission my group is trying to improve the intramurals program. The purpose of our mission is to help kids like school better by having something to look forward to. If we are able to improve the intramurals , then we think kids would be able to show their talents, like school better, and work harder.

Real World Skills I’ve Learned:

Three skills I have learned through out this mission project are, researching, social skills, and finding solutions. When I am older and have a job, my boss may ask me to look for facts for a project we are doing. Or he may want me to look up the nearest restaurant, and I will know how to do that because of all the practice I have had. Whether I am on the phone or in a conference, I am going to need social skills, and practicing what to say to real business people during the project helped me learn what to say and how. Everyday I face problems, and usually don’t know the solution. But during this project I had to find new ways to come to a solution, which I know will help. Overall I know that using and practicing these skills in school, will help me when I have a job or just at home.

Challenges We/I Encountered:

For this project we had to find grants, but it was not so easy. First we tried looking for grants that supported sports for schools. But that didn’t work, so we tried a different search. We then looked for money that paid for coaches, and that didn’t work. Then we learned that we would need money for busses, so we looked for those kinds of grants. Still out of luck. Finding grants was one of the challenges. But another one was focusing. Honestly a huge challenge for my group was staying on task and working. I think since we were all good friends it was easier to talk and laugh rather than work. I am not saying that I don’t want to work with my friends. (Because c’mon, who doesn’t want to work with friends) I think that next group work we have, we should not have all of us together.

Solutions We Tried Out:

Finding grants was one of our challenges, so we had to come up with a solution. The solution we came up with was to do fundraisers to make the money. Then we started coming up with ideas to make money. So once we make enough money, our problem will be solved. For our focusing problem, we tried many solutions, but still in the end didn’t get an amazing result. We tried to ignore each other, but that just made people mad. We also tried yelling at each other when we were goofing off, but again hurt feelings. Finally we just tried to keep everyone on task. We would nicely tell one another to focus when we got off topic, and that seemed to work better. Now when we work on out mission together, we should be focused and ready to go.

Next Steps:

The next thing we have to do is start to actually raise the money. We have already come up with some ideas to raise money, now we just have to implement them. After we raise the money we will try and see if busses will stay later if we can pay them. We will try and get intramurals to last longer, so we can get real coaches. If the busses stay longer then the intramurals can go for a longer time. Then we will try and contact coaches, to see if they would be willing to help out with different sports.

Favorite Part of  the Process:

My favorite part of the process was getting to share my ideas on how to improve the intramurals. This was my favorite part because I love sports, and getting to find ways to improve sports was really enjoyable. I liked being able to share what I know about sports, and being able to incorporate it into the project. I also loved having a lot of responsibility. A lot of people would rather not have to do a lot, but I like knowing that this is my project, and that I can control it. Overall I like this project a lot, and hope to be able to really make a difference with the intramurals.
