TV Show Team Nicole

My group is focusing on making the morning announcments at GW more creative and interesting. We are making a TV show. Today I researched the things we need to make it. My group is writing a grant for people to sponsor us to help us be successful in this project. We considered looking Best But Geek Squad to help us.

Anna Mid Mission Reflection

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis

Our mission is to create a twitter feed that gives shout outs to students that have done something that positively affected the school or the students. The purpose of out mission is to reward students for doing the right thing and motivate others to do so. If we reward students for doing positive  things, then the ammount of good deeds done in the school will increase.

Real World Skills I’ve Learned and Challenges We encountered

Throughout this project, I have gained many skills that I will have for the rest of my life. I have learned to work with classmates that may not always have the same thoughts, ideas, and opinions as me. This is how it will be in the real world. if I have a coworker or boss that may have completely different ideas, I cant quit my job, I have to work through it. Every time I would have a disagreement with a group member, instead of ignoring their ideas and insisting I was right, I listened from all points of view and had a calm conversation with them to find a compromise or solution. That method never failed and we always came up with a answer where everyone was happy.

This project let me learn how to deal with failure when our mission topic did not work. You will run into failure many times in your life and you have to cope with it. Our group ran into a midway crisis when some of the group members did not like the original topic. We had no data on the school salad bar and its quality because none of us buy lunch. We had to deal with the fact that our first mission topic was a failure and move on. The solution is not to avoid failure, but to learn how to deal with it. In this project I learned how do exactly that and it all worked out. We worked extra hard with no distractions and even worked outside of class voluntarily. In class we discussed our progress without teacher support and caught up to the other groups quickly. Everything in the end worked out because we could deal with our failures.

Another skill I earned was the skill to preserver . To create a twitter feed rewarding other students, we would need a twitter account to use and teachers who would record a list of students that did good deeds. The teachers would need to give the list to us at the end of the week so we could tweet it. The problem was that we needed the teachers to agree, and we needed a twitter. There was a teacher who had just created an account for GW2. We would now need to get her to agree to let us post those tweets because making a new twitter just for shout outs seemed pointless. We had to contact her which was hard. We preserved   to get contact of her and to get a list of teachers that would agree to record the good deeds. Now we have all the tools we need to succeed because we learned how to work with each other and listen to each other’s ideas, deal with failure and find a way to succeed, and persevere .

Next Steps

Next, our group needs to gather the lists the teachers made. We need to tweet the good deeds that were done and mention the student that did them. We will continue to do this the rest of the year and hopefully prove our hypothesis right. Our group also needs to plan a meeting with Ms. Rienhart to get the twitter account situated. I believe that our group is making wonderful progress.

Favorite Part of the Process

My favorite part of the process was getting to know my group members better. Since I am new this year, I didn’t know anyone in my english class very well. At the beginning of the mission project I was familiar with everyone and had had many conversations with them but didn’t really KNOW them. Now, I can say that I know each of them and have fun conversations with them. I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet them because of this project.

Ms. Chintha’s newspaper club team organization foundation of hope and stuff.

For today, we were looking for help from newspaper companies, such as The Washington Post, to help establish our newspaper at George Washington Middle School. We found a couple of E-mails that we can contact, but I still have a couple of questions that I want an answer to. I.e. Will the E-mails that we contact, reply? When will they reply? How well did type and would they understand what we’re saying? We are tying to contact multiple gazettes and newspapers to ask them for a grant to help us make our newspaper. Katherine is mostly trying to find the newspapers so that we can inform them and ask for support in our project. David is mostly help Katherine and I make our grant as fluent and as formal as possible. While I am basically a foundation in helping Katherine find a local newspaper and/or gazette that might help us with our project, and I’m also helping David make our letters and making our paragraphs be more persuasive.

Anna School lunch

Today we looked up school lunch distributors that are in the DC area. We got 3 email addresses and are drafting what to send to them. We have phone numbers too and we are writing a script if we were to call. I still need to get Michelle Obama’s contacts but I am working on it. I feel like our group is making progress.

Photography Team- Grace V and Kai L

We researched grants for a photography club and this is what we found:

American Honda Foundation
The American Honda Foundation supports projects with a focus on math, science, the environment, and technology.  The Foundation also supports youth job training programs. Grants typically range from about $10,000 to $75,000. For grant guidelines, schools should send a self-addressed stamped envelope to:  American Honda Foundation, P. O. Box 2205, Torrance, CA  90509-2205.  Applications should be mailed to meet deadlines of February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1.  Note: If the staff receive preliminary proposals a month before the deadline, they can provide feedback in time for applicants to make changes and still meet the deadline.

What are the requirements for this grant?

Is GW2 eligible for this grant?

What is another grant that we would be eligible for?
