Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis
Our mission is to create a twitter feed that gives shout outs to students that have done something that positively affected the school or the students. The purpose of out mission is to reward students for doing the right thing and motivate others to do so. If we reward students for doing positive things, then the ammount of good deeds done in the school will increase.
Real World Skills I’ve Learned and Challenges We encountered
Throughout this project, I have gained many skills that I will have for the rest of my life. I have learned to work with classmates that may not always have the same thoughts, ideas, and opinions as me. This is how it will be in the real world. if I have a coworker or boss that may have completely different ideas, I cant quit my job, I have to work through it. Every time I would have a disagreement with a group member, instead of ignoring their ideas and insisting I was right, I listened from all points of view and had a calm conversation with them to find a compromise or solution. That method never failed and we always came up with a answer where everyone was happy.
This project let me learn how to deal with failure when our mission topic did not work. You will run into failure many times in your life and you have to cope with it. Our group ran into a midway crisis when some of the group members did not like the original topic. We had no data on the school salad bar and its quality because none of us buy lunch. We had to deal with the fact that our first mission topic was a failure and move on. The solution is not to avoid failure, but to learn how to deal with it. In this project I learned how do exactly that and it all worked out. We worked extra hard with no distractions and even worked outside of class voluntarily. In class we discussed our progress without teacher support and caught up to the other groups quickly. Everything in the end worked out because we could deal with our failures.
Another skill I earned was the skill to preserver . To create a twitter feed rewarding other students, we would need a twitter account to use and teachers who would record a list of students that did good deeds. The teachers would need to give the list to us at the end of the week so we could tweet it. The problem was that we needed the teachers to agree, and we needed a twitter. There was a teacher who had just created an account for GW2. We would now need to get her to agree to let us post those tweets because making a new twitter just for shout outs seemed pointless. We had to contact her which was hard. We preserved to get contact of her and to get a list of teachers that would agree to record the good deeds. Now we have all the tools we need to succeed because we learned how to work with each other and listen to each other’s ideas, deal with failure and find a way to succeed, and persevere .
Next Steps
Next, our group needs to gather the lists the teachers made. We need to tweet the good deeds that were done and mention the student that did them. We will continue to do this the rest of the year and hopefully prove our hypothesis right. Our group also needs to plan a meeting with Ms. Rienhart to get the twitter account situated. I believe that our group is making wonderful progress.
Favorite Part of the Process
My favorite part of the process was getting to know my group members better. Since I am new this year, I didn’t know anyone in my english class very well. At the beginning of the mission project I was familiar with everyone and had had many conversations with them but didn’t really KNOW them. Now, I can say that I know each of them and have fun conversations with them. I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet them because of this project.
