Mission topic,purpose, and hypothesis
Our mission is about after school intramurals. The purpose of our mission is to make intramural s sports better for GW middle school . To make them better we are trying to make intramural s longer so that students can exercise and have more fun. Our hypothesis is that if we made intramural s longer then it would benefit the students health and also give the students something to do after school. My group is now trying to make them better by making intramural s last about an hour longer and to do that we will get buses that will come at around 5:30 rather than 4:30. Intramurals sports will then last about 2 hours long.
Real World Skills Ive Learned
3 skills I learned through this process are how to stay on task, learn how to cooperate with people Ive never met, and to do grant research. I can use these skills outside the classroom when I’m working with people, most likely in college. when I’m in college I will probably work with people who Ive never met. These skills will come in handy because Ive already experienced what it feels like to cooperate with people who I don’t even know or never seen. I will also be able to stay on task even with friends whenever I do a project or transfer task.
Challenges WE/I Encountered
Three challenges we encountered were having to get someone to gives us a grant or money for our change project. My group needed the money to get new equipment for intramural s s,new uniforms and money for after school buses so intramural s would be longer. We searched online for school sports grants, but we couldn’t find anything. My group tried to have an A and B team and you would have to try out for the A team. and if you made the A team you would have to pay a fee. We decided to talk to our P.E teacher to see what he thought about our ideas and he had told us that we were not going to be able to make two teams because he wanted to have as many students play sports as possible. We were hoping to use the fee money to get new equipment, new P.E uniforms and the buses so intramural s would be longer and not only half and hour.
Solutions We Tried Out
Some solutions we tried out to overcome our challenges were to sell kettle corn at our school or ask local community members to give us money. We haven’t decided yet whether or not to sell kettle corn or just ask community members for money. I think selling kettle corn will be really easy since I’ve done it before with another class and we had raised over one thousand dollars. We will need about two thousand dollars since buses cost about four hundred dollars and there are around five after school buses.
Next Steps
Next we need to decide how we are going to get our money so that we can get the buses. If we decide to sell kettle corn we will have to star selling kettle corn right away before the end of the the school year. Then we will buy as many buses as possible. If we get the money from the community members we can the buses right away for the intramural sports that are going on right now. Hopefully we get our money soon.
Favorite Part Of The Process
My favorite part of the process was looking up grants because i never new how use full a grant could be. I saw how getting that grant could have made a big difference in my groups change project. Now in the future when I do another project like this one I will consider trying to get a grant. Grants can be very use full and i also learned that there are lots of people and organizations willing to give grants to those who need it .
