I am an Island

I am an island

Isolated from the rest of the world

Content with peace by myself

No one can reach me because,

My skin is six-foot thick steel armor

Slipping out of people’s harmful grasps

I retreat to my safe, concealing island

I am an island

Guarded by trees

They hold their hands up,

Blocking out the hurtful criticism

I plaster a smile to my face

But inside, their cold hearts freeze my love

Dark, demeaning colors are all they see

This is me

I am an Island
