It is tempting

I see the light

bright and warm

I understand

why people always go

towards it

It beckons me

calling out

the voices of those I’ve lost

 

It is tempting

they sound so pained

they call to me

It is tempting

then I understand

I can not go into the light

I must fight it

 

I am terrified

I know I must

overcome

my fears

I can’t do it

yes I can

I smell it

the stench of the dead

lIke a million skunks

the bodies, dead, but still calling

I taste the blood

awful

like metal

 

then

I realize

not blood

but death

what I taste

I know I am close

to death

this knowledge scares me

but gives me power

scary, but powerful

I will myself to overcome

I rise up and wash

the taste out of my mouth

with the water of life

I am living

with power

new power

 

it was tempting

my fears

overcome

no longer binding me

I express ideas like an artist

I’m creative like a person

I start and end wars

I leave my mark

I can share ideas and information

I’m properly and positively pleasing, practical painless and powerful

I am necessary, never failing, well, not never

needy, computers threaten my superiority

but they will never surpass me for I am the one, the only the pen

hot so don’t touch

people play with me

and get hurt

 

I’m not trying to hurt

but I’m just so pretty

people can’t resist

 

I’m fun to watch and

I like to bounce around

but pain is my name

and I bring people down

Poverty Rap

I chose to write about poverty because it is a big issue in places all over the world. There are so many people who barely survive and many of us are totally oblivious. We need to open our eyes and really help these people. Not just make a string of hashtags on social media. I am trying to let people know that they can help and they should because it wouldn’t be very hard for them to donate some of their time or money to these people. I want to help the less fortunate and you should too.
