Mid-Mission reflection Cole

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis

Our mission is to create a twitter page for shout outs for kids in GW2. The purpose of our mission is to give shoot-outs to kids that have  made major achievement or done something helpful towards the school in some way. Our hypothesis is that enough of our sponsors can give us enough names, our page can thrive and it will work out. Also, if we get enough followers, these kids really can get the rewards and congratulations that they deserve. We hope that this will work out because people will be able to realize what kids have done and how great it was.

Real World Skills I’ve Learned

There are many skills that our group have learned and used throughout this experience. One of those skills would be responsibility. We all learned that we had work to do, which was a fairly equal amount and that we had to do it in the time being. Another skill that we all learned was leadership. Sometimes when we couldn’t make any decisions, like when we had to try to find a new idea for a new topic when we realized that the salad bar mission would not work out, and one person in our group had to take leadership and make the decision and get us on track. A third skill we learned was sharing. We had two laptops and we all had to use our share of the time and to make sure if someone needed something more, they could use it.

We can all use these skills outside on the real world, and they are all very useful. If you are paired up in a group or with another person in a job, you will have to learn to take leadership, share, and take responsibility for what you do. These are all very vital to what you later in life, and we are guaranteed to use these all some point in our lifetimes. These are all skills that will make our lives easier.

Challenges We/I encountered

There were a few challenges that our whole group faced through this project. One of those challenges was finding things that we were looking for such as sponsors for our salad bar, understanding it would be hard knowing that we already had a salad bar and that we were only trying to upgrade it. A second problem that we had was finding a new topic, after realizing that the salad bar idea was not going to work. Another problem that we came across was that we needed sponsors to help us get kids names for our twitter feed page. These were pretty much all of the problems our group had in our mission.

Solutions we tried Out

Our first solution for looking at sponsors for the salad bar was pretty much just searching. It took awhile but eventually we found a website that could be a sponser, however it said we had to have a grant and needed to have worked a year, which is why we switched topics. Our next problem was finding a new topic. We had many ideas but just couldn’t decide. That’s when someone took leadership and we had the answer. Our solution to getting sponsors was going around the school, asking various teachers to be a sponsor. All of these solutions worked!

Next Steps

So far we have an email, a twitter, and a few teacher sponsors. Now we have only a few things left in order to complete our mission. We have most of the work done. Our next step is to get followers and finish setting up the twitter account. After that we will e-mail the teachers a go-ahead to start giving us names. From then on, the account should be running smoothly.

Favorite part of the process

There were many great parts in this process; it’s hard to pick a favorite. If I have to answer I would say that working together and having fun were the best parts. I don’t mean by messing around, but just working together was pretty fun. I think that this mission group was a great experience. I had an amazing time.
