Mid-Mission Reflection Matthew

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis:

Mission Topic: Our mission topic is to get a photo team for George Washington Middle School 2.

Purpose: Our Purpose is to get a better reputation throughout our community and to help parents see what the students and their kids are doing inside the classroom by getting a photo team for our school.

Hypothesis: Our hypothesis is if we get a photo team then we will be get a good or better reputation in our community and to show parents and people visiting our website/class blog what is going on inside our school/classroom by using pictures instead of just words.

Real World Skills I’ve Learned:

Skills: Three skills that I have learned through this process are calling and asking for a sponsor in a professional way and giving a professional phone call in order to get a grant/sponsor to get money to fund our project.  Another skill that I have learned through our mission project is how to get a grant and write one.  The final skill I have learned through this process is how to send professional E-mails to the photographers that we would like to get support from.

How I can use these in the real world:  I can use these skills in the  real world if i ever need to get someone to get a sponsor if I want to get into a highly regarded High School such as Gonzaga, Biship Ireton, or Saint Stevens.  Also if i want to get into a good college but i don’t have the money to pay for the tuition for all four years then I could call or E-mail a person of high regard of the school or just a person in general who has a high position and i could get a sponsorship to get enough money to pay for the college.

Challenges We/I Encountered: Three challenges we encountered my group and I encountered were writing a script before we made a call to a possible sponsor for our mission project.  Another one we encountered was finding sponsor that was willing to sacrifice their time to help make our dream of a photography team at GW into reality.  The last challenge we faced was finding/signing up for a grant that wasn’t expired and was in our area.

Solutions We Tried Out: Some solutions that we tried to overcome our challenges were not giving up when the potential sponsor turned us down and gave us no one to contact next that might want to help us.  Another solution we tried was keep looking at different sites for more photographers around our area. The last solution we tried was to keep reading over our script to call the sponsors and make sure it was very good and it sounded professional.

Next Steps: One of the next steps we will do is get the sponsors into the classroom so we can get off ground level with the mission and get more knowledge about photography and how to do it. Also get to know what equipment we would need to get the project going and to see if the sponsors can provide it.  Another step would be to find more sponsors so if the current sponsor we have falls through we have a safety net with more sponsors we can turn to.

Favorite Part of the Process:  My favorite step so far in this process was calling the sponsors and trying to get them to help us in our mission.  It was very educational and getting those skills to talk to an adult who would be willing to provide something for you is a good skill to have in the future.
