Mid-Mission Refection Lesly

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis

Our mission is to create a newspaper for George Washington Middle School  to change the view of others on our school, we must gain the respect of others to show that we are a school that is honorable and  . We have come to the conclusion that if we created a newspaper for our school the public will see GW as a better and improved school. To earn the respect and acceptance of others is our main goal by completing out mission. We are also trying to gain a grant to create the newspaper, the amount of money we need is still unknown, but if we want our school to bee view different by the public then we must try to do it in some way even if would cost us a large amount. So far we have done at good job at finding people in the newspaper topic to call for support.

Real Word Skills I’ve Learned

During the process of researching for this mission, I’ve learned some things along the way. At the beginning of the mission I didn’t truly understand how to even create a document to store our data in, that was something that I had no idea how to do. During this mission I’ve also learned that there are many people that work in a newspaper company and that there was something called Alexandria gazette that is also a newspaper company. There was also that I didn’t quite understand how to use the document that we had create. It was a really fun to learn all of those things. I’m glad that I got to learn all those new things while I worked on the Mission.

Challenges We Faced

Some things we had trouble with was to stay on topic, we always got out of topic and started to talk about nothing that had to do with the mission. Another thing was that we couldn’t find any important information on newspaper and finding someone who we could call to ask for support. Sometimes we even had trouble collecting data because some of us were usually playing with the document we created by posting pictures or putting random stuff in the document. Not to mention that others talked to much, while we were suppose to be working. Other than that everything was good, at least wee collected some data to use.

Solution We Tried

To try and stay on topic we came to an agreement by trying to ignore each other while we were searching for data, but it kind of didn’t work so well as we thought it would. One of my groups members was the one who found most data and found the people whom we could talk to and ask for their support on our mission. To solve the fooling around problem one person from our group threatened that if we didn’t stop he wouldn’t allow to write anything at all in the document. It did stop us from posting pictures but not from sometimes putting comments.

Next Steps

Next we will write a script to call somebody from our list of people from Alexandria gazette to ask them if they could give us a grant to construct our GW newspaper. If that person we call doesn’t answer us we shall send an email to them stating how important the grant is to us and how much their help is needed.  After we have done all of that we need to think of a plan on how to construct the GW newspaper and how we can change other peoples view on our school. Then we will start to make an article on the things going on in GW like the beginning of fourth quarter and also that the SOL’s are almost to be taken by each student in seventh sixth. So far the process of writing an article is stable.

Favorite Part Of the Process

My favorite part of the process was that I got to meet new people and that I had fun while researching and learning new things. When I didn’t even know the names of my teammates, they were like complete strangers to me. When I tried to say something and one of my teammates interrupted me, I always laughed at the random things they said. Even if I got interrupted in the process it was a bit fun to experience being with other people I’m not familiar with. And of course I learned new things while we worked on the project, I learned how to create document , and that you are able to get connected with other people and be able to write at the same time that the others are writing. It was a bit exciting to learn all of those things, I’ve never done something such as that in my entire life, it was great.

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis

Or mission is to improve our schools salad bar. Te purpose of our mission is to get more students in GW campus to eat at the salad bar more. Or hypothesis is “if we improve our school salad bar, then more students i n GW will eat at the sald bar more”.

Real world Skills I’ve Learned

Tree skills that i have learned how to do thought this process are,  i have learned how to write/type a proper e-mail to someone. Ihave learned how to research for my topic. Fnally i have learned how to properly write a script before calling someone/business/organization for support. Ican use these skills outside the classroom when i am about to call someone  for support for different project. Ican also use these skills when writing/typing a e-mail to someone, or if I’m trying to research for something.

Challenges We/I Encountered

The fist challenge we faced was finding a grant to summit for our mission. the second challenge we faced was researching for a person to support us during this project. Then the final challenge my partner and i faced was finding the e-mail of the person  to support us and getting a perfectly written e-mail.

Solutions We Tried Out

Some solutions we tried for solving for finding  someone to support us was looking on the G.W. school campus website for the person in charge of the school cafeteria/lunch. Then a solution we tried for solving making a perfectly written e-mail was working a home with our parents.

Next step

Next my partner and i need to contact/e-mail all the cafeteria staff for support, find a grant, and make a budget sheet for all the things/supplies we will need to improve our school salad bar.

Favorite Part of This Process

My favorite part of this mission/project was working with my partner to help improve our school.

Mid-Mission Reflection Azyona

– Our mission is to create a photography team at George Washington Middle School.

The purpose of this mission is to create a photography team to keep kids from getting bored and doing things they’re not supposed to and so that kids can express themselves in different ways.

Our hypothesis is that if we get sponsored by someone or people, then we get a photography team for the kids at GWMS.

– Three skills that I have have learned through the process was how to add detail to my e-mails, how to write open-ended questions to get more information out of people and how to use my time wisely so we can complete the project on time.

I can use this skill outside of the classroom to write e-mails to my teachers, my family, my friends, etc.

– Three challenges we encountered are communicating, working together and moving forward. This is because while we were in the group no one really stayed on topic and no one really wanted to do any work through the whole process.

– Some solutions that we tried to overcome our challenges were splitting up into two’s so we can get the work done easier instead of all us working on the same part of the process and not getting any work done at all.

– Next we need to e-mail W.F. back for more information and details

– My favorite part of this process was getting and e-mail back from W.F. because it was very exciting to know that someone was going to actually help us create a photography team for our school.

Mid Mission Reflection – Dejanae

This topic reminded me of the time when my cheerleading team had to find sponsors for our cheerleading uniforms & we all worked to together and seceded .

Our mission is to create a photography team. The Purpose of our photography team is to get students up to date , teach them about art , make them confident and bring the school together more . Our hypothesis Is the if we Make a good photography team then maybe our school community can come together . Three skills i have learned through this process are team work because me and my class mates worked together on this project and we really supported each other threw this task . I also learned How to do better searcher and look up different things on the computer . Another thing Ive learned is to be a leader because when some of my class mates are off task a say something and i worked threw it good .

Three challenges we encountered are finding i sponsor because some people said no , finding good local stores that have sponsors , and righting questions down that we can ask them . Other challenges was finding cheap cameras . Some solutions that we tried to overcome our challenges were if a person say no to help us , we call another person . We also wrote down a lot of stores & wrote down things that can help us gain money . We wanted to do fun raises , like car washes & sale things ect .

Next , we need to or my teacher has to meet the guy or lady that said yes to help us with the photography team .& see what they say about helping us .  My favorite part of this process was when all of us work together & have fun doing it . Because everybody can get to know each other more and socialize with different class mates we’ve never really talked to .

Mission Topic , Purpose , and Hypothesis

  • Our mission is to get a grant

  • The purpose of our mission is making a photography club at GW2

  • Our hypothesis is that if we make a photography then we are going to be successful at it

Photography is a great experience for you for young teenagers . We are trying to make  a photography club at George Washington Middle School 2. The purpose of trying to make this photography club is making people to wanna join our club. That’s if we make a photography club then we’re gonna have to be successful at it.

Real World Skills I’ve Learned

  1. Contacting businesses

  2. Finding people who are helping people get grants

  3. Talking to live operators

  4. People not emailing you back

The skills i’ve learned from this assignment is contacting businesses is a hard strategy because you have to know what to say when you get on the phone with a live operators. Finding people and that are helping young teenagers get grants is difficult because some people don’t like giving out grants. Talking to live operators is really hard. Some of them ask question that you don’t expect or give you negativity and tell you that they don’t have answers for your questions. Also when your emailing someone and its a really important situation and they don’t email you back that’s a very serious problem if you already did it over 3 times. Some people are to busy to email some teenager who is trying to get a grant , so maybe they would answer if the principal contacted them then they would probably have to answer.

Challenges We/I Encountered

  1. Getting negative feedback

  2. Figuring out how to get a grant

  3. Hard to reach companies

Some challenges that me and my group are facing are getting negative feedback. I need to work on planning before I call a live operator because that would make things much better.

Solutions We Tried Out

Some solutions that we tried to overcome our challenges was looking deeper and      going through obstacles in finding a grants , fundraising , etc.

Next Steps

Next , we need to :

  1. Find ways to purchase stuff that needed for the photography club

Also finding more open grants

Favorite Part of the Process

My favorite part of this process was coming together as a group and completing this assignment with all of us putting some work together ,  because if it wasn’t for some of my group members I wouldn’t be able to find a grant all by myself .

Anna Mid Mission Reflection

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis

Our mission is to create a twitter feed that gives shout outs to students that have done something that positively affected the school or the students. The purpose of out mission is to reward students for doing the right thing and motivate others to do so. If we reward students for doing positive  things, then the ammount of good deeds done in the school will increase.

Real World Skills I’ve Learned and Challenges We encountered

Throughout this project, I have gained many skills that I will have for the rest of my life. I have learned to work with classmates that may not always have the same thoughts, ideas, and opinions as me. This is how it will be in the real world. if I have a coworker or boss that may have completely different ideas, I cant quit my job, I have to work through it. Every time I would have a disagreement with a group member, instead of ignoring their ideas and insisting I was right, I listened from all points of view and had a calm conversation with them to find a compromise or solution. That method never failed and we always came up with a answer where everyone was happy.

This project let me learn how to deal with failure when our mission topic did not work. You will run into failure many times in your life and you have to cope with it. Our group ran into a midway crisis when some of the group members did not like the original topic. We had no data on the school salad bar and its quality because none of us buy lunch. We had to deal with the fact that our first mission topic was a failure and move on. The solution is not to avoid failure, but to learn how to deal with it. In this project I learned how do exactly that and it all worked out. We worked extra hard with no distractions and even worked outside of class voluntarily. In class we discussed our progress without teacher support and caught up to the other groups quickly. Everything in the end worked out because we could deal with our failures.

Another skill I earned was the skill to preserver . To create a twitter feed rewarding other students, we would need a twitter account to use and teachers who would record a list of students that did good deeds. The teachers would need to give the list to us at the end of the week so we could tweet it. The problem was that we needed the teachers to agree, and we needed a twitter. There was a teacher who had just created an account for GW2. We would now need to get her to agree to let us post those tweets because making a new twitter just for shout outs seemed pointless. We had to contact her which was hard. We preserved   to get contact of her and to get a list of teachers that would agree to record the good deeds. Now we have all the tools we need to succeed because we learned how to work with each other and listen to each other’s ideas, deal with failure and find a way to succeed, and persevere .

Next Steps

Next, our group needs to gather the lists the teachers made. We need to tweet the good deeds that were done and mention the student that did them. We will continue to do this the rest of the year and hopefully prove our hypothesis right. Our group also needs to plan a meeting with Ms. Rienhart to get the twitter account situated. I believe that our group is making wonderful progress.

Favorite Part of the Process

My favorite part of the process was getting to know my group members better. Since I am new this year, I didn’t know anyone in my english class very well. At the beginning of the mission project I was familiar with everyone and had had many conversations with them but didn’t really KNOW them. Now, I can say that I know each of them and have fun conversations with them. I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet them because of this project.

Mid-Mission Reflection Claire

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis:

“Don’t let them drag you down by rumors just go with what you believe in.” ― Michael Jordan. I thought this quote could connect to kids in our school who sometimes are bullied or aren’t as confident. Sometimes they just need something to do that makes them get noticed, and I think that is sports. For our mission my group is trying to improve the intramurals program. The purpose of our mission is to help kids like school better by having something to look forward to. If we are able to improve the intramurals , then we think kids would be able to show their talents, like school better, and work harder.

Real World Skills I’ve Learned:

Three skills I have learned through out this mission project are, researching, social skills, and finding solutions. When I am older and have a job, my boss may ask me to look for facts for a project we are doing. Or he may want me to look up the nearest restaurant, and I will know how to do that because of all the practice I have had. Whether I am on the phone or in a conference, I am going to need social skills, and practicing what to say to real business people during the project helped me learn what to say and how. Everyday I face problems, and usually don’t know the solution. But during this project I had to find new ways to come to a solution, which I know will help. Overall I know that using and practicing these skills in school, will help me when I have a job or just at home.

Challenges We/I Encountered:

For this project we had to find grants, but it was not so easy. First we tried looking for grants that supported sports for schools. But that didn’t work, so we tried a different search. We then looked for money that paid for coaches, and that didn’t work. Then we learned that we would need money for busses, so we looked for those kinds of grants. Still out of luck. Finding grants was one of the challenges. But another one was focusing. Honestly a huge challenge for my group was staying on task and working. I think since we were all good friends it was easier to talk and laugh rather than work. I am not saying that I don’t want to work with my friends. (Because c’mon, who doesn’t want to work with friends) I think that next group work we have, we should not have all of us together.

Solutions We Tried Out:

Finding grants was one of our challenges, so we had to come up with a solution. The solution we came up with was to do fundraisers to make the money. Then we started coming up with ideas to make money. So once we make enough money, our problem will be solved. For our focusing problem, we tried many solutions, but still in the end didn’t get an amazing result. We tried to ignore each other, but that just made people mad. We also tried yelling at each other when we were goofing off, but again hurt feelings. Finally we just tried to keep everyone on task. We would nicely tell one another to focus when we got off topic, and that seemed to work better. Now when we work on out mission together, we should be focused and ready to go.

Next Steps:

The next thing we have to do is start to actually raise the money. We have already come up with some ideas to raise money, now we just have to implement them. After we raise the money we will try and see if busses will stay later if we can pay them. We will try and get intramurals to last longer, so we can get real coaches. If the busses stay longer then the intramurals can go for a longer time. Then we will try and contact coaches, to see if they would be willing to help out with different sports.

Favorite Part of  the Process:

My favorite part of the process was getting to share my ideas on how to improve the intramurals. This was my favorite part because I love sports, and getting to find ways to improve sports was really enjoyable. I liked being able to share what I know about sports, and being able to incorporate it into the project. I also loved having a lot of responsibility. A lot of people would rather not have to do a lot, but I like knowing that this is my project, and that I can control it. Overall I like this project a lot, and hope to be able to really make a difference with the intramurals.

Mid-Mission Azucena

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis

Our mission is to have a Photography team in George Washington Middle School.

The purpose of our mission is to teach kids more about photography and have a photography team after school.

Our hypothesis is that if we build this after school photography team, someone can teach us more about photography and we’ll have kids doing fun things and we’ll have our parents and other adults updated on the things we do by posting up pictures on our schools website page.

Real World Skills I’ve Learned

Three skills that i have learned through this process are one I’ve learned how to work as a group all together. Two I’ve learned how to search for things properly. Three I’ve learned to include everyone in everything I’m doing.

I can use these skills outside the classroom to keep perseverance & to never give up.

Challenges We/I Encountered

The challenges that we encountered were, one we couldn’t find sponsors from companies. Another challenged we encountered was that we couldn’t find grants for a few cameras that we can use for a photography team. Our third challenge that we encountered was that we didn’t find someone that knows photography to teach us a little about photography. We eventually worked as a class and found a few people to call and we found someone that can teach us teens on photography.

Solution We Tried Out

Some solutions that we tried to overcome our challenges were to just work on looking for one thing and if that didn’t work we would have a plan B. A group of us worked on looking for grants so we can purchase a few cameras for our photography team. Another group of us worked on looking for someone in the city of Alexandria to teach us about photography and how to use cameras.

Next Step

Next, We need to make sure if the person we called and said he would be able to teach/mentor us is gonna be able and committed to share his time with a group of us after school. We need to have a plan B if the guy changes his mind about sharing his time and teaching us about photography. We need to have everything organized and we need to make sure everything is right.

Favorite Part Of The Process

My favorite part of this process was working with everyone together as a family because i think we can go farther and we can find better things by working together. When there’s a group of us working on a mission like this its easy because we can finish faster and can do more process with more people helping out.

Mission topic , purpose and hypothesis

Our mission is to change the intramural sports program .We are trying to improve it by making it more sophisticated . The purpose is to make it competitive . Also we are  trying  to get more students to join the intramural sports  program . Our hypothesis is that if we make the intramural sports program competitive than more students will join . The reason more students will join is because it will be fun competing against other schools districts and not just competing against Hammond all the time.

 Challenges our group encountered

Challenges our group encountered  were  trying to find a sponsor or grant to help fund for the intramural sports program . Also we are trying to get local community members  to donate money to help make the intramural sports program competitive by fundraising at stores located in Alexandria . Another challenge our mission group faced was trying to hand out the surveys because we didn’t know what teachers to give it to and we didn’t know how we were going to receive them back .

Solutions we tried out

Some solutions we tried out were to contact local stores in our area and see if we could hold fundraisers at the stores .Our grew came up with this without Ms.Chintha’s support . Also another solution we tried was to give out surveys to students asking them what they think of the intramural  sports program now and what they think of it being competitive and having the students drop it off in a box in front of our classroom .Also another solution we tried out was to talk to one of the gym teachers who was in charge of the intramural sports program by asking him  do you think the sports program could become competitive and what do we need for it to be competitive .

Real world skills i learned

Three skills that i learned through this process was to give more details when asking questions . Also to not give up if your rejected  for asking for a  grant or sponsor because you get more experience from that  . Also try to do something on your own without the teachers support and try to figure the problem out your self .  I can use these skills outside the classroom to help me when asking questions . Also when were trying to get grants or sponsors for out mission project .

Next steps

Next our group needs to host fundraisers at local stores in our community . Also we need to find someone who will sponsor us or gives us a grant . Another step is to receive the surveys and collect data based on the answer the students chose. Also we need to see if the stores our group emailed or contacted will let our mission group use there collect boxes so we can have somewhere to put the money when we fund raise . Another step is to go to Crave a store located in Alexandria and host a fundraiser for the intramural sports program .

My favorite part

One of my favorite parts was giving out the surveys to see what people think . Also calling  businesses  to see if they would let us use there collect boxes or host fundraiser. Another one of my favorite parts was trying to change the intramural sports program . Also the mission project was my favorite because I’m really interested in sports .

Mid-Mission Reflection JR

Mission Topic, Purpose, and Hypothesis

Our mission is to create a photography team here at George Washington Middle School. This mission will change the daily routine of students because it will give them something to do after school other than watch TV or be bored. It could help teachers get out information that they have about their class through pictures their kids take which in turn will get info out on the streets of Del Ray. It will do this because the team will take pictures and then put them on the school websites and then the parents will be able to view them. My hypothesis is that if we create a photography team at our school then the school will get positive publicity.

Real World Skills I Learned

I have learned many real world skills so far through doing of this project. Here are three of them. One of them is how to make a proper phone call to someone that I want to make a deal with or an offer to who I have never before spoken to. Another is how to work with a group. To succeed in making our project we had to work together, something that is not easy. But we bonded as a group and are working together well. And the last skill I learned was how to create an email address for my class. This was a very cool experience for me, because I am not a very tech savvy person so it was fun to try something new. I can use these skills in the real world to help work well with others in a real job.

Challenges we/I Encountered

We actually encountered vary few challenges, but we were not perfect. Here are a few challenges that we encountered. First we had a huge challenge even coming up with a theme. After a few days we did however come up with the theme of creating a photography team at our school. The second challenge that we encountered was making an outline of what we where going to say which was hard because we were just a couple of middle schoolers trying to sound professional. The last challenge that we faced was trying to even get a sponsor. We did eventually but it was hard.

Solutions That We Tried Out

We tried out multiple solutions to fix our problems, here are a few of them. First we were having trouble getting along with each other, so we bonded over something had we in common. Then we were having trouble making a script for the phone call to make so we enlisted the help of a friend that was not in our group. Finally we were having trouble sounding professional on the phone so we did a rehearsal with our teacher Mrs.Chintha.

Next Step

Next we need to try to secure some cameras and a visit from one of our sponsors.

Favorite Part Of  The Project

My favorite part of the project was making phone calls.
