Important Dates

June 19th LAST DAY OF SCHOOL – WE MADE IT TO THE  END!!!

July 6-31 Summer School (SOL Boot Camp will be July 20-24) Writing SoL will be July 16, and all other SoLs will be administered the last week of summer school ~ DO NOT miss this opportunity to take any SoLs you need to meet the Advanced (9) or Standard (6) Diploma type before the 2015-2016 school year starts!!!

Summer School Registration is wrapping up. Please see your counselor and check out the summer school website or Summer School Handbook link also if you are only interested in an online course, please view the Online Summer School Handbook for specific registration information

Reminder: Looking to register for SAT and SAT Subject Tests in the 2015-2016 school year? Registration opened on June 11th (link). ALSO, the first ACT registration deadline for the fall ACT is August 7th. Check in with the ACT (link) to make sure you don’t miss this important summer deadline!

Planning Ahead

Recommendations and Resume

Before you left, did you make sure to reach out to staff members who you would like to write a letter of recommendation for you during senior year? If not, its not too late. Please take a moment to send a nice note (or email) just letting them know how much you appreciated them and would be extremely grateful if they wrote a letter of recommendation for you in the fall. Make sure you resume is up to date, and that you will be open to talk with your recommenders, at their convenience, about your plans and your achievements.

Preparing for AP Courses

Some of you have already had a chance to take at least one AP course, but many more of you plan to take AP courses next year. Take some time this summer to prepare ahead of time for what you will experience this coming school year. Are you a student considering joining the military, the Air Force specifically? If so, did you know that they have a special program Juniors? Don’t delay, they are recruiting juniors in this special program in July, it includes special benefits that may not be available if you wait until senior year for recruitment!

At this time, the LC12 (as of today!!) counselors are considering offering visits to area colleges during the summer. We encourage families to visit together since this will be a decision you will need to make together, we understand that this is not possible for some families. If you think you may not be able to visit colleges this summer without this offer from your counselor, please complete the brief survey on the link below by Friday, June 19th (TODAY IS THE LAST DAY!!) and we will be in touch as we plan for the summer:

Veteran’s Youth Summer Camp Preview

(on MONDAY 6/22!!)

Please join us for a great breakfast while you learn about our camp and meet our Veteran camp instructors. The camp preview day is complementary to the first 200 members of the DMV community by RSVPing at rsvp@mission-complete.org. Fox morning news will be broadcasting live. Former NFL players, authors and Miss DC 2015 will be joining us along with many influential members of our community. It is a day of fun, networking and community unity.

Then consider attending the Master Class conference on September 26, 2015 with other minority youth from across the metropolitan area. The focus of this conference is on career exploration and higher education preparations.

Future Quest is a FREE College and Career Forum for students with disabilities, parents, and professionals.
