A woman
Staring back at me
Dark hair dancing
Lips pulled tight
Look a little closer
Eyes
Worn with age
Forehead pinched
In worry
Look a little closer
Thousands of memories
And emotions
Living within the contours
Of a puzzle
A story
Told in whispers
A woman
Staring back at me
Dark hair dancing
Lips pulled tight
Look a little closer
Eyes
Worn with age
Forehead pinched
In worry
Look a little closer
Thousands of memories
And emotions
Living within the contours
Of a puzzle
A story
Told in whispers
I love your use of repetition in this poem, it really drew me in. I also liked how you started off describing physical details but then got into the emotional side of things. Beautiful work.
I love your message that a face can tell the story of someone’s past. And also that it’s necessary to take time with someone to understand who they are and how their personal history has made them the person you see presently. The rhythm of your writing said all that to me in such a concise way.
