So, hope you enjoyed this very short school week, and were able to make the most of your time away from school. You had the gift of time over the last week, and hopefully you used it well. Unfortunately, some gifts aren’t truly free, and we will need to make up two of those days. In case you have not seen it, here is the schedule for making up snow days:

SNOW MAKE-UP SCHEDULE
1-3 days: No make-up (YAY!)
Day 4: Make-up on Feb. 5
Day 5: Make-up on March 4
Day 6: No make-up (YAY!)

If we have any additional snow days:

Day 7: Make-up on April 22
Day 8: No Make-up

What a wonderful gift of time we have received! Hope you are making the most of it! We have two weeks left in the quarter, and one more major college deadline ahead (February 1st!). Time to start evaluating where you are, and where you want to be by June 18, 2016!

This long weekend we have the opportunity to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. with our words and actions. Take some time to reflect on how you treat others, and the ways that you can serve others to make life better for all. There are lots of events throughout the metropolitan area this weekend to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy, and to allow you to give back to the community as we honor his life of service. Make the most of the “Day on” Monday, and continue to strive to be the best you that you can be!

As we celebrate the start of a new year that has a very special meaning (remember when 2016 seemed soooo far off!), today is the day to officially start your FAFSA! If you are unable to begin today, remember that the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is sponsoring a FAFSA completion workshop on Saturday, January 9th from 8:30-11:00 AM. Welcome to the weekend, and the last week before break countdown!

Congratulations to those seniors who passed SoL tests this week, and are well on their way to completing their graduation requirements! Also, good luck Saturday ACT testers. This is the last one for the year, well 2015 that is!

Also, if you have just taken the SAT, or are taking the ACT on Saturday, please consider having your scores sent to the schools you are applying to while the option is free. As many of you are discovering, if you wait to send your scores, you have to pay for each report to each school you need to have them submitted. That can add up very quickly. Also, please be sure to update your scores in Naviance because that helps tremendously when you are searching for your best “college fit/match.” Continue reading →
