While exploring skills to promote service and social justice in Alexandria, students planned and coordinated the building of an outdoor outdoor classroom space in the Minnie Howard courtyard. Students developed college/career readiness skills by developing a list of needs for the project, developing relationships with community partners, obtaining necessary materials and approvals, and developing a task list to ensure completion of the garden. The goal is to create an outdoor space that can be used across content areas, promoting a school culture based in flexible learning.
